Physical therapy often helps patients avoid needing surgery. But when surgery is recommended, pre- and post-surgical physical therapy is crucial.
Pre-surgery, physical therapy helps improve your circulation by enhancing your fitness level and muscle health. This results in fewer post-surgical complications (incl. cardiopulmonary issues and nerve damage), more successful procedures and shorter recovery times. A 2014 study in the Journal for Bone and Joint Surgery found that pre-operative physical therapy resulted in patients needing 29 percent less acute care services [1].
At Silverbush Physical Therapy, we communicate with your surgeon about potential post-surgical precautions or contraindications. We then, follow your surgeon’s guidelines, as well as evidence-based practice to ensure you heal as quickly as possible, and have a great long-term outcome. For a list of the surgeries we treat, see Conditions Treated.
